Fr. Vincent, (baptized: Benedetto), was born to Benedetto and Santa (nee Livolsi) Liuzzo on February 10, 1922 in Bronx, New York. On March 20, 2013, he passed on to eternal life at St. Mary’s Hospital, Passaic NJ.
Fr. Vincent entered the Capuchin Order and was invested with the habit of St. Francis on July 19th, 1942. On July 25, 1943, he professed vows at St. Lawrence Monastery, Beacon, New York.
He studied theology at Our Lady of the Angels Monastery, Staunton VA, and was ordained a priest on December 4, 1949 by Bishop Peter Ireton at the Church of St. Mary, Richmond, VA, Fr. Vincent served faithfully as a priest for over 63 years as both pastor and vicar in numerous parishes throughout his province, as a professor and director of seminaries in Beacon NY, Geneva NY and Staunton, VA, and later as hospital chaplain for many years at St. Mary’s Hospital, Passaic NJ.
Fr. Vincent served on his provincial council for several terms, and during the early 1970’s founded both the first Mission Office and the first Development Office for his Capuchin province.
In addition to his many ministries, Fr. Vincent was well known for working skillfully with his hands. He was a talented mechanic and craftsman, and was responsible for many renovation and improvement projects at sites around the province – especially at Immaculate Conception Church, Bronx NY during his term as pastor there in the mid 1970’s, Fr. Vincent was a fine example of a hard-working and fraternal Capuchin Franciscan — an inspiration to his brother friars and the people he served.
He is survived by his brother John and sister-in-law Josephine, and several nieces and nephews.
